Many hobbyists complain about Acan Lords changing color after going into their aquariums, losing rainbow colors and fading to one or two solid colors. So what keys have we found to keeping the brilliant Acan colors?
1. PARAMETERS!! Nitrates and Phosphates should be testable but very low; Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium need to be at stable ocean levels. Water changes (10%) should be conducted weekly OR trace elements should be dosed regularly
2. Feeding - Acans LOVE food, but they suck at catching it! Turn off your return pump and start your target feeding them with a combination of a small molecule food like Oysterfeast or Brightwell MicroVore. Once a feeding response is clear, add larger molecule food like ROE or Brightwell MacroVore...these foods are much more digestable than Brine or Mysis which have exoskeletons making it difficult for the corals to break down.
3. Lighting - Acans prefer lower lighting, especially blue spectrums, we've seen the most incredible colors appear on regular looking Acans under a constant low intensity Actinic style lighting
